The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Nationals will match up on the MLB diamond to begin their series Friday.
The Dodgers played a pair of games versus the Angels this week. Los Angeles lost both of those games by one run, falling 5-4 Tuesday and 3-2 on Wednesday.
For Friday’s game, the Dodgers are sending out Hyun-Jin Ryu in the start. Over 123.0 innings and a 11-2 mark so far, Ryu has a 1.76 ERA with 112 Ks and 14 BBs this year.
Over on the Nationals’ side, they’re coming out of a series against Colorado. Washington won 11-1 Tuesday, then 3-2 and 2-0 in the Wednesday doubleheader. On Thursday, the Nats blew a lead in the late innings and fell 8-7.
For Friday’s game, the Nationals will go with Anibal Sanchez. This year Sanchez is 6-6 with a 3.80 ERA and 81 strikeouts.
The Dodgers are 49-23 in their last 71 Friday games and 45-22 in their last 67 after an off day. LA is 7-0 in Ryu’s last seven starts with six days’ rest and 7-2 in his last nine in game one of a series. The Dodgers are 19-7 in Ryu’s last 26 starts and 4-15 in his last 19 road starts versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 4-0 in the last four in game one of a series and 5-15 in their last 20 Friday games. The under is 4-1 in Washington’s last five Friday games and 7-3-1 in the last 11 in game one of a series.
Ryu is riding a nice string of starts right now, and really has just one bad outing (4.0 innings, seven earned in a loss at Coors Field) since May. Over his last trio, Ryu has three straight quality starts, with three earned combined across 20.0 innings and a 2-0 record.
With Ryu dealing right now (and pretty much this entire year) I have to roll with the Dodgers here.
