The Line: Washington Nationals -135 / Los Angeles Dodgers +116 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Coming up Saturday evening from Nationals park, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Nationals will be matching up to continue their MLB series in game two of a doubleheader.
In the Friday opener of this set, we had a rainout. That game was pushed back and will kick off Saturday afternoon with Ross Stripling and Tanner Roark pitching.
For Saturday’s second game, the Dodgers will be bringing out LHP Rich Hill. In his 24.2 innings and 1-2 record this year, Hill has a 6.20 ERA with 25 Ks and 13 BBs.
Coming into this series, the Dodgers’ top hitter is Chris Taylor with 44 hits, 31 runs and 16 RBI. Cody Bellinger is right there as well on 43 hits, 27 runs and 19 RBI.
Over on the Nats’ side, they’re going with Max Scherzer in the Saturday nightcap. In his 58.2 innings and 7-1 record this year, Scherzer has a 1.69 ERA with a whopping 91 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the Nationals entering this series is Howie Kendrick with 45 hits, 17 runs and 12 RBI. Trea Turner is close behind on 44 hits, 26 runs and 15 RBI.
The Dodgers are 2-5 in their last seven Saturday games and 1-4 in their last five during game two of a series. LA is also 9-2 in Hill’s last 11 Saturday starts and 0-4 in Hill’s last four starts.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 8-2 in Scherzer’s last 10 starts in game two of a series and 11-3 in his last 14 Saturday starts. Washington is also 42-15 in Scherzer’s last 57 starts and 19-7 in his last 26 home starts.
Hill had a couple of bad outings (12 earned in 9.0 innings), but did bounce back in his last game with two earned in 5.2 innings. As for Scherzer, he’s been an absolute machine this season and hasn’t given up more than two earned in a start yet. I’m going with Scherzer to stay hot here in the nightcap.
