Washington Nationals -130 / Miami Marlins +120 O/U: 8.5
The Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals will continue their weekend MLB set with a game on Sunday.
In the Friday opener of this set, the Nationals secured a high-flying 12-10 win. On Saturday, Washington managed a 5-0 shutout win, scoring all their runs in the fourth inning.
For the Sunday game, the Marlins will be sending out Caleb Smith in the start. Over his 53.0 innings and 3-1 mark this season, Smith has a 2.38 ERA with 71 Ks and 14 BBs.
Miami could only find four hits in their loss on Saturday. Two of them belonged to Harold Ramirez, who finished 2-for-3 and is hitting .353 on the year.
Over on the Nationals’ side, on Sunday they’re going with Erick Fedde on Sunday. Fedde doesn’t have a decision yet, but he’s sporting a 2.87 ERA with eight Ks.
Washington spread out their seven hits pretty well in the Saturday game, and all the real action came in the fourth inning. Catcher Yan Gomes logged a nice double and kicked in three RBI.
The Marlins are 21-43 in their last 64 in game three of a series and 1-5 in their last six Sunday games. Miami is 5-2 in Smith’s last seven starts and 7-3 in his last 10 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 2-5 in their last seven in game three of a series and 4-9 in the last 13 versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. The over is 4-0-1 in the Nats’ last five in game three of a series and 10-4 in their last 14 Sunday games.
Smith has given the Marlins a nice lift this year when he’s been on the mound, and usually puts the team in a position to win. He hasn’t given up more than two earned in any of his last seven starts.
Smith will probably settle in with a 3-something ERA this season if all goes well—he had a 4.19 ERA over 16 starts last year—but for now it seems like he’s in a nice groove. I like Fedde to pitch well but he probably won’t be in for long. This looks to be a nice spot to take the Marlins.
