MLB | New York Mets (6-1) at Washington Nationals (4-4)

Out at Nationals Park on Sunday, we’ve got a nationally-televised series finale coming in the MLB between the New York Mets and the Washington nationals.

In the Thursday opener, the Mets secured a big 8-2 victory. In the Saturday game, New York eked out a 3-2 win.

For Sunday’s matchup, the Mets will be bringing out RHP Matt Harvey for the start. In his first outing this season, Harvey managed 5.0 innings of one-hit ball in a no-decision.

Topping off the Mets’ lineup heading into the weekend was Asdrubal Cabrera, with seven hits, three runs and one RBI. In the Saturday game, Cabrera had a pair of hits with an RBI and a run.

Over on the Nationals’ side, they’re going with RHP Tanner Roark on Sunday. In his debut this year, Roark went 7.0 innings with four hits and one earned in a victory.

Adam Eaton was the top hitter for the Nats heading into the weekend with 10 hits, 10 runs, two homers, five RBI and 19 total bases. On Saturday, Bryce Harper hit a solo homer, his fifth of the young season.

The Mets are 7-20 in their last 27 Sunday games and 1-4 in the last five during game three of a series. New York is also 2-8 in Harvey’s last 10 Sunday starts and 9-23 in his last 32 road starts.

Meanwhile, the Nationals are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games and 1-4 in their last five in game three of a series. Washington is also 8-2 in Roark’s last 10 Sunday starts and 8-3 in his last 11 starts with five days’ rest.

The Mets have been one of the more pleasant surprises of the young MLB season, and it will be interesting to see how New York fares as the weeks roll on. This should be a really fun pitching matchup to watch, and if each guy is on we’ll probably see a low-scoring game. I’m leaning toward the Nationals here, but the safer play is probably the under.
