New York Yankees (22-17) at Washington Nationals (22-17)
|Date & Time||Tuesday May 19, 2015, 7:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Washington Nationals -140 / New York Yankees +130 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The New York Yankees visit the nation’s capital looking to cool off the Washington Nationals.
The New York Yankees might be leading the American League East but they can’t afford a losing streak of any length and need to bounce back each time a loss is suffered. The Yankees need a bounce back after a 6-0 defeat at Kansas City on Sunday. Lefty Chris Capuano struggled in his first outing off of the disabled list with four runs given up on four hits and a pair of walks over just three frames to fall to 0-1. The Bronx Bombers totaled six hits and walked twice with Case Headley going 2-4 while Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran doubled. Nathan Eovaldi opposes the Nationals for the first time in a Yankees uniform on Tuesday. Eovaldi is coming off of a 4-2loss at Tampa Bay with all four runs plated on six hits and a pair of BB in 7.1 frames.
The Washington Nationals have been penciled in as the favorite in the National League East and are beginning to look like it after a so, so start to 2015. The Nationals bats continued their torrid pace with a 10-5 rout of San Diego on the road Sunday. Starter Stephen Strasburg wasn’t at his best with three runs allowed on five hits and a walk but that was good enough to get the win. The Nats put together a ten hit, six walk attack that saw Bryce Harper go 3-4 with a homer and four RBI’s and three runs while Danny Espinosa went deep and knocked in three. Tyler Moore drove in a pair with Ian Desmond and Yunel Escobar scoring two times each. Left hander Gio Gonzalez faces the Yankees in the series opener on Tuesday night. Gonzalez received a no decision in a 9-6 win at Arizona where he was charged with five runs on nine hits and two BB in five innings.
New York are 3-9 in their last 12 Tuesday games and are 14-5 in their last 19 games on grass while the under is 8-3-2 in the Yankees last 13 on grass. Washington are 9-2 in their last 11 overall and are 9-2 in their last 11 games on grass while the over is 16-5 in their last 21 games following a win. The Yankees are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Washington. Historically Eovaldi has thrown well against Washington and Gonzalez has been bad versus New York. Any bet here would be based on the Nats offense…
