The Line: Washington Nationals -147 / Philadelphia Phillies +137 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up on Friday from Nationals Park, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Phillies are fresh off a set versus the Cardinals. Philadelphia lost the Tuesday game but won the other two to take that series.
Philly will be bringing out Zach Eflin on Friday. In his 44.2 innings and 4-2 mark this season, Eflin has a 3.43 ERA with 46 Ks and 11 BBs.
The Phillies’ leading hitter this year is Odubel Herrera with 81 hits, 35 runs, 12 homers and 41 RBI. Second on the team is Cesar Hernandez with 72 hits, 51 runs and 27 RBI to his credit so far.
Over on the Nationals’ side, they just finished up against Baltimore. Washington split the first pair of games, then on Thursday the Nats won the series with a 4-2 victory.
For Friday’s game, Washington will be bringing out Tanner Roark. In his 88.1 innings and 3-7 record this year, Roark has a 3.87 ERA with 72 Ks.
The Nats’ lead hitter coming into the Orioles finale was Trea Turner with 77 hits, 39 runs and 26 RBI. On Thursday, Turner had a hit and a run.
The Phillies are 4-1 in the last five games following an off day and 0-7 in their last seven Friday games. Philly is also 5-2 in Eflin’s last seven starts and 4-1 in his last five starts in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Nats are 1-4 in their last five in game one of a series and the over is 6-2 in their last eight Friday games. The under is 34-14-5 in Washington’s last 53 in game one of a series and 6-0 in their last six versus the NL East.
After a couple of rough starts (10 earned in 8.2 innings), Eflin has calmed down over his last three outings with four earned in a total of 18.2 innings. In that trio, Eflin has a 1.93 ERA and has struck out 17 while walking only three. I think he’s playing well enough to go ahead and take the Phillies here.
