The Line: Washington Nationals -173 / Philadelphia Phillies +163 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals will be meeting up to continue their MLB set at Nationals Park on Wednesday.
In the Tuesday opener, the Nationals powered out a 10-4 victory, scoring all but one run in the final three frames.
For Wednesday’s game, the Phillies will be sending out Zach Eflin. In his 97.1 innings and 9-4 record this year, Eflin has a 3.70 ERA with 91 Ks and 22 BBs.
Leading the Philly hitters this year is Odubel Herrera, who came into this set on 122 hits, 54 runs, 19 homers and 62 RBI. In the opener, Herrera came up empty.
Over on the Nats’ side, they’re going with Stephen Strasburg on Wednesday. Across his 85.1 innings and 6-7 mark this season, Strasburg has a 3.90 ERA with 101 Ks and 21 BBs.
Leading the Nats in hitting this year is Trea Turner, who came into Tuesday on 135 hits, 75 runs, 15 homers and 52 RBI. In the opener, Turner had two hits and a run.
The Phillies are 6-0 in their last six in game two of a series and 5-2 in their last seven Wednesday games. Philadelphia is also 2-6 in Eflin’s last eight starts in game two of a series and 1-4 in Eflin’s last five Wednesday starts.
Meanwhile, the Nats are 2-5 in their last seven Wednesday games and 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series. Washington is also 18-5 in Strasburg’s last 23 starts in game two of a series and 59-22 in hi last 81 starts.
Over his last four starts, Eflin has been decent but not lights-out, allowing 13 earned over 26.0 innings. Strasburg has had a couple of bad starts in his last two games, allowing nine earned on 6.2 innings. Considering how the Nationals have officially given up on the year and jettisoned a handful of solid players, I’m behind the Phillies for this one.
