Washington Nationals -160 / Pittsburgh Pirates +150 O/U: 8
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals will meet up on the MLB diamond Friday to kick off their weekend series.
The Pirates just finished up a series versus the Cubs. Pittsburgh split the first two games, then in the rubber match on Thursday the Pirates fell 2-0. The Pirates managed just five hits in that one, two of them belonging to Adam Frazier, who went 2-for-5.
For the Friday game, the Pirates will be sending out RHP Trevor Williams. In his 12.0 innings and 1-0 mark this year, Williams has a 2.25 ERA with nine Ks and one walk.
Over on the Nationals’ side, they took two of three from the Phillies this week before an off day on Thursday. Tops in hitting for Washington so far is Anthony Rendon with 18 hits, 15 runs, four homers and 14 RBI.
The Nationals are going with Patrick Corbin on Friday in the opener. Across 12.0 innings this season, Corbin doesn’t have a decision yet but caries a decent 3.75 ERA, 13 Ks and three BBs.
The Pirates are 4-1 in Williams’ last five starts and 5-2 in his last seven road starts. Pittsburgh is 4-1 in Williams’ last five starts on grass and 1-4 in his last five Friday starts.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 5-2 in their last seven overall and 5-1 in their last six versus a right-handed starter. Washington is 0-5 in the last five Friday games and 0-6 in their last six after an off day.
Williams has two quality starts under his belt so far this season, with both going 6.0 innings. Stretching back to Williams’ last season, that makes eight quality starts over his last 10 outings, with just one of those starts containing more than one earned.
As for Corbin, he’s got a pretty good run going himself, with seven quality starts over his last 10 tries, but he hasn’t faced anyone besides the Mets yet—and oddly enough both his starts this year ended as 6-5 results.
This should be a great pitching matchup if both guys keep it going, but I like Williams a little better right now and I’ll go with the Pirates.
