|Date & Time||Saturday April 13, 2019, 4:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Pittsburgh Pirates +100 / Washington Nationals -120 -- Over/Under: 8.5
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals meet Saturday in MLB action at Nationals Park.
The Pittsburgh Pirates look for another win after winning six of their last eight games. The Pirates have scored 11 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 11 games. The Pittsburgh Pirates have won their last six games when scoring at least one run. Adam Frazier leads the Pirates with 14 hits and three RBI while Josh Bell and Melky Cabrera have combined for 26 hits and 13 RBI. Chris Archer gets the ball, and he is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 15 strikeouts this season. Archer is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 10 strikeouts in his career against the Nationals.
The Washington Nationals could use a win here to get a game above a .500 record. The Nationals have soared 28 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 11 games. The Washington Nationals have won six of their last seven games when scoring more than three runs. Anthony Rendon leads the Nationals with 20 hits and 16 RBI while Adam Eaton and Victor Robles have combined for 25 hits and 11 RBI. Max Scherzer gets the ball, and he is 1-2 with a 3.32 ERA and 28 strikeouts this season. Scherzer is 5-2 with a 2.75 ERA and 96 strikeouts in his career against the Pirates.
The Pirates are 4-1 in their last 5 Saturday games, 7-2 in their last 9 during game 2 of a series and 1-4 in Archer's last 5 road starts. The Nationals are 6-2 in their last 8 Saturday games, 8-3 in their last 11 during game 2 of a series and 57-27 in Scherzer's last 84 starts. The Pirates are 19-42 in the last 61 meetings in Washington and 2-5 in the last 7 meetings. The over is 4-1 in Scherzer's last 5 home starts. The under is 4-1 in Pirates last 5 road games.
Chris Archer is starting to show flashes of being the pitcher he was in Tampa Bay, and the Pittsburgh Pirates are playing some impressive baseball at the moment. With that said, we're getting Scherzer, one of the best pitchers in the world, at a price we almost never get him at. I have no choice but to side with the Washington Nationals at this price given the pitcher on the mound.
