The Line: Washington Nationals -245 / Pittsburgh Pirates +225 --- Over/Under: 7.5
Over at Nationals Park on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals will be picking up their MLB series once again.
In the Monday opener, the Nats scored twice in the fourth inning and were able to hang on for a 3-2 win.
For Tuesday’s game, the Pirates will be rolling out RHP Chad Kuhl. In his 27.2 innings and 3-1 mark this year, Kuhl has a 4.55 ERA with 25 Ks and eight BBs.
Coming into this set, the Pirates’ top hitter was Starling Marte with 32 hits, 21 runs and 11 RBI to his name. On Monday, Corey Dickerson put up a solo homer.
Over on the Nats’ side, they’re going with Max Scherzer in the start Tuesday. Across 39.0 innings and a 5-1 mark this season, Scherzer has a 1.62 ERA with 57 Ks and nine walks.
Washington’s leading hitter this year entering play Monday was Trea Turner with 30 hits, 14 runs and six RBI. In the Monday game, Turner had three hits and an RBI.
The Pirates are 1-4 in Kuhl’s last five road starts versus a team with a losing record and 1-7 in his last eight road starts. The under is 6-2 in Kuhl’s last eight road starts and 5-2 in the Pirates’ last seven Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 16-7 in their last 23 Tuesday games and 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series. Washington is also 9-2 in Scherzer’s last 11 home starts and 39-15 in his last 54 starts.
Overall, Kuhl has had a couple of bumps in the road this year but has pitched pretty well, with two straight quality starts on his resume. As for Scherzer, he’s got just one tough-luck loss and quality starts otherwise over six outings. With the way that Scherzer is pitching right now, I don’t think I can pick against the Nats.
