Pittsburgh Pirates (17-13) at Washington Nationals (14-16)
|Date & Time||Thursday May 3, 2018, 1:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Washington Nationals -120 / Pittsburgh Pirates +110 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Over at Nationals Park on Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals will be meeting up to finish their MLB series.
The Nationals took games one and two of this set 3-2 and 12-4. On Wednesday, Washington kept it going with a 9-3 win.
For the Thursday game, the Pirates will be bringing out RHP Trevor Williams. In his 35.1 innings and 4-1 record this year, Williams has a 2.29 ERA with 23 Ks and 17 BBs.
Heading into Wednesday’s game, the Pirates’ leading hitter was Starling Marte with 32 hits, 21 runs and 11 RBI. On Wednesday, Marte had a pair of hits.
Over on the Nationals’ side, they’re going with Jeremy Hellickson on Thursday. Over 15.1 innings this year, Hellickson has a 4.11 ERA with nine Ks and four walks.
Tops in hitting for the Nats heading into game three was Trea Turner with 34 hits, 15 runs and 10 RBI. In the Wednesday game, Turner went 1-for-5.
The Pirates are 9-3 in their last 12 during game four of a series and 5-2 in Williams’ last seven starts. Pittsburgh is also 2-5 in Williams’ last seven road starts and 1-4 in Williams’ last five starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Nats are 1-4 in the last five Thursday games and the under is 4-1 in the last five games versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. Washington is also 6-0 in their last six versus the NL Central and 7-2 in their last nine versus a right-handed starter.
Williams has a nice string of starts to his credit this year, and hasn’t given up more than two earned in any of them. Hellickson has been pitching pretty well also, with seven combined earned runs over three starts. All things considered, I like Williams to come out pitching a good game here and put the Pirates in position to win.
