|Date & Time||Tuesday May 22, 2018, 7:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Washington Nationals -170 / San Diego Padres +160 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Coming up Tuesday from Nationals Park, the San Diego Padres and the Washington Nationals will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Monday opener, the Nationals scored five times in the second inning on the way to a 10-2 victory. Washington out-hit San Diego 15-4 in that one.
For Tuesday’s game, the Padres will be going with LHP Eric Lauer. In his 21.0 innings and 1-2 record this year, Lauer has an 8.14 ERA with 18 Ks and 11 BBs.
Coming into this set, the Padres’ leading hitter was Jose Pirela with 48 hits 27 runs and 16 RBI. In the Monday game, Pirela put up one hit and a run.
As for the Nationals, on Tuesday they’re rolling out RHP Jeremy Hellickson. Over his 32.2 innings and 1-0 mark this season, Hellickson has a 2.20 ERA with 26 Ks.
Washington’s leading hitter entering this set was Trea Turner with 47 hits, 28 runs and 17 RBI. On Monday, Turner had two hits, two RBI and a run.
The Padres are 5-2 in their last seven during game two of a series and 1-4 in Lauer’s last five starts. San Diego is also 1-4 in Lauer’s last five starts on grass and the under is 4-0 in their last four Tuesday games.
The Nationals are 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games and 3-11 in their last 14 games versus a left-handed starter. The under is 10-2 in the Nats’ last 12 during game two of a series and 8-2 in their last 10 Tuesday games.
Lauer has a couple of decent starts on his resume this season, but the rest have been pretty shaky. For instance, in his last pair of outings, he’s given up 10 earned on 13 hits in 7.0 innings. I don’t necessarily see Lauer having a lot of success against this Nats lineup, so I’m going to stick with Washington.
