The St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Nationals will meet up on the MLB circuit on Monday.
St. Louis is coming off a set versus the Reds. The Cardinals split the first two games of that series, then on Sunday St. Louis banged out a 5-2 win. In that one Yadier Molina racked up a hit with three RBI.
For the Monday game, the Cardinals will be bringing out Michael Wacha for the start. Over his 21.1 innings and 1-0 mark this year, Wacha has a 4.64 ERA with 24 Ks and 14 BBs.
Over on the Nationals’ side, they’re fresh off a set versus San Diego. Washington lost the first two games of that set 4-3 and 8-3, then on Sunday the Cats eked out a 7-6 victory in 11 innings to avoid the sweep.
Washington will be sending out Patrick Corbin for the start Monday. In his 32.2 innings and 2-0 record so far, Corbin has a 2.48 ERA with 39 Ks and six walks.
The Cardinals are 5-2 in their last seven Monday games and 5-1 in Wacha’s last six starts in game one of a series. St. Louis is 9-3 in Wacha’s last 12 starts versus the NL East and 1-4 in their last five in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 3-9 in their last 12 Monday games and 5-16 in their last 21 in game one of a series. The over is 3-1-1 in the Nats’ last five overall and 3-1-1 in their last five in game one of a series.
Wacha put up seven earned in 3.2 innings versus the Dodgers in a no-decision April 11, but bounced back in his last outing versus Milwaukee with two earned on five hits in 6.0 innings.
As for Corbin, he has five straight quality starts to begin the season and has given up just three earned in his last two starts in 13.2 innings. I like Corbin to keep it going here and help the Nationals to a win in what should be a close game.
