Washington Nationals -163 / St. Louis Cardinals +153 O/U: 7.5
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Nationals will meet up on the MLB diamond to continue their set Wednesday.
In the opener of this series Monday, St. Louis powered out a 6-3 win. On Tuesday, the Cards kept it going with a 3-2 win.
For the Wednesday game, the Cardinals will be sending out Miles Mikolas in the start. Across his 34.0 innings and 2-2 mark this year, Mikolas has a 5.29 ERA with 19 Ks and eight walks.
In the victory Tuesday, the Cardinals’ Jose Martinez managed two hits and a run. Kolton Wong added two hits and an RBI for St. Louis as well.
Over on the Nats’ side, they’re going with Max Scherzer on Wednesday. In his 39.1 innings and 1-3 mark this season, Scherzer has a 4.12 ERA with 54 Ks and five walks.
Adam Eaton was the only Nationals player with multiple hits in the loss Monday; he hit a solo homer in the third as well.
The Cardinals are 6-0 in their last six in game three of a series and 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games. St. Louis is 13-3 in Mikolas’ last 16 road starts and 4-1 in his last five Wednesday starts.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 5-1 in their last six Wednesday games and 11-3 in the last 14 in game three of a series. Washington is 1-5 in Scherzer’s last six starts and 0-4 in his last four home starts.
Mikolas has been pretty solid overall this year, but he’s still giving up too many earned runs to be considered a top-tier starter. In five of MIkolas’ six starts this year, he’s given up three earned or more, but has lasted at least 5.0 innings in all six.
Scherzer has had some bad starts, but overall he’s doing pretty well also. This should be a pretty fun pitching battle to watch, but since the Cards play well behind Mikolas I’m going with STL to eke one out.
