MLB | Tampa Bay Rays (28-30) at Washington Nationals (33-25)
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Coming up Tuesday from Nationals Park, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Washington Nationals will be kicking off their MLB series.

The Rays are coming off a set against the Mariners this past weekend. Tampa was swept in that set 4-3, 3-1 and 2-1.

For the Tuesday game, the Rays will be bringing out RHP Nathan Eovaldi. In his 6.0 innings and 1-0 record this year, Eovaldi has a clean 0.00 ERA with four Ks and one walk.

Leading the way in hitting for the Rays this year is CJ Cron, with 60 hits, 32 runs, 12 homers and 32 RBI. Wilson Ramos and Matt Duffy are tied for second on the team, each with 53 hits.

Over on the Nationals’ side, they’re fresh off a series versus the Braves. Washington managed a win on Saturday but lost the other three games.

Washington is going with Max Scherzer in the start on Tuesday. Across 79.2 innings and a 9-1 record this year, Scherzer has a 1.92 ERA with 120 Ks and 19 BBs.

Way out front for the Nationals this year is Trea Turner with 61 hits, 33 runs and 24 RBI. Bryce Harper is the next one back with 47 hits, 37 runs, 18 homers and 40 RBI to his credit.

The Rays are 3-7 in their last 10 Tuesday games and 4-10 in their last 14 following an off day. Tampa is also 0-4 in their last four road games and 0-5 in their last five versus the NL East.

Meanwhile, the Nats are 5-0 in their last five versus the AL East and 7-2 in the last nine in game one of a series. Washington is also 22-9 in their last 31 overall and 4-1 in Scherzer’s last five home starts.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen any extended action from Eovaldi, as he was out for all of 2017 after Tommy John surgery. He’ll have his hands full against Scherzer, who has been a quality start machine this year (aside from four earned in 6.0 innings in Miami on May 25—still a win). With Scherzer out there, I have to go Nationals here.

Pick:
Washington Nationals -240
