MMA | Darren Elkins vs Ricardo Lamas
Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

Ricardo Lamas will be fighting Darren Elkins at UFC Fight Night 140 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Ricardo Lamas enters this fight with a professional MMA record of 17 wins and 7 losses. It has been a tough 12 month period for Lamas as he has lost his previous 2 fights. The last time Lamas fought was in June where he lost Mirsad Bektic at UFC 225 in Chicago. While his recent record is disappointing, Lamas is still a very strong fighter and has many different attributed including strong submission skills and exceptional punching ability. In his 17 wins, Lamas has won 5 fights via knockout and 5 fights via submission meaning he is very adaptable to most situations. The biggest challenge for Lamas will be getting back his confidence and form back as he has recently been looking like a fighter who is past his prime.

On the other side of the coin, Darren Elkins also lost his previous fight as he was beaten by Alexander Volkanovski at UFC Fight Night 133. As it currently stands. Elkins has a professional MMA record of 24 wins and 6 losses. Over the past few years, Elkins has established himself as a top fighter as his loss to Alexander Volkanovski has been the only time he has lost since the start of 2015. Similar to his opponent, Elkins is also a very well-rounded fighter as he has won 6 fights via knockout and 6 fights via submission while also proving great endurance as he has won 12 fights via decision. Elkins is currently ranked 14th by the UFC in the featherweight rankings so a win will be vital since it could mean a move into the top 10.

This is a fight between a fighter on the up and fighter on the decline. Lamas looks past his prime and this has been very evident in his previous two fights. Elkins looks like a fighter who is moving up in the roster and I see him getting better in the near future. With a big contrast in recent form, I see Darren Elkin being too strong for his Ricardo Lamas.
