The Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks duke it out at the State Farm Arena on Saturday night.
The Boston Celtics are really starting to build some momentum with six wins in their last nine games and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after last night’s 122-116 home win over the Grizzlies. Kyrie Irving led from the front with 38 points, seven rebounds and 11 assists, Marcus Smart added 20 points while Al Horford chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Celtics shot 51 percent from the field and a healthy 17 of 38 from the 3-point line as they trailed for most of the game until the third quarter where the Celtics took over behind Irving who scored 20 of his 38 points in the quarter. With the impressive win, Boston improved to 27-18 overall and 17-5 at home.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have lost six of their last nine games but they’re proving that they’re not quite the pushovers they were at the start of the season as they’ve won two of their last three games and they will be feeling pretty confident after upsetting the Thunder in a 142-126 home win on Tuesday. John Collins led the team with 26 points on 12 of 14 shooting, Tray Young steered the offense with 24 points and 11 assists while Alex Len provided the spark off the bench with 24 points of his own. As a team, the Hawks shot a season-high 62 percent from the field and 18 of 37 from the 3-point line as they squandered an 11-point halftime lead before exploding for 45 points in the fourth quarter to run away with the game. With the win, Atlanta improved to 14-30 overall and 8-11 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record, 1-6 ATS in their last seven games playing on zero days rest and 0-4 ATS in their last four road games. The Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games playing on three or more days rest and 2-7 ATS in their last nine home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the over is 6-1-1 in the last eight meetings and the Celtics are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
It’s no surprise that the Celtics are heavy road favorites as they’re clearly the better team on paper, but the Hawks have found a bit of form lately and they looked great in their upset win over the Thunder. The Celtics are also playing this game on zero days rest while the Hawks will be well-rested as they haven’t played since Tuesday. The Celtics are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings but I think the Hawks can surprise them here and keep this to within a couple of possesions.
