State Farm Arena
The Line: Atlanta +2.5 -- Over/Under 230
The Charlotte Hornets pay a visit to the Atlanta Hawks at the State Farm Arena on Saturday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in decent shape as they’ve won seven of their last 12 games, but they will be looking to snap a two-game skid after falling short against the Mavericks in a 99-93 road loss on Wednesday. Kemba Walker led the team with 30 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, Jeremy Lamb added 15 points while Nicolas Batum chipped in with 14 points and five assists. As a team, the Hornets shot just 40 percent from the field and nine of 37 from the 3-point line but they fell just short against the new-look Mavericks who were led by a triple-double from Luka Doncic. With the loss, Charlotte dropped to 26-28 overall and 7-19 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks haven’t been too bad themselves as they’ve split their last eight games, but they will be looking to bounce back after having their two-game win streak halted by the Raptors in a 119-101 home loss on Thursday. Taurean Prince and Trae Young each scored 19 points while John Collins finished with a double-double of 12 points with 12 rebounds. As a team, the Hawks shot 45 percent from the field and 16 of 35 from the 3-point line as they started hot to lead by as many as 17 points late in the second quarter, but they just couldn’t keep that up in the second half as the Raptors outscored them by 59-33 in a blowout. With the loss, Atlanta fell to 18-36 overall and 8-14 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team below .400, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 road games. The Hawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss of more than 10 points, 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a loss.
Head to head, the home team is 14-5-1 ATS in the last 20 meetings, the under is 12-4 in the last 16 meetings and the Hornets are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings.
The Hornets have had their ups and downs lately, but there will be some alarm bells if they lose a third straight game to the Hawks in this one. The Hornets are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings, so I think they can bounce back with a win over the Hawks in this one.
