The Detroit Pistons travel to the Philips Arena to battle tha Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night.
The Hawks will be eager to kick off the new season with a win after finishing with an impressive 60-22 record last season. Jeff Teague led from the front with averages of 15.9 points and 7.0 assists last season but it was a complete team performance as Al Horford averaged 15.2 points, Paul Millsap averaged 16.7 points while Kyle Korver provided the cherry on top by shooting 49.2 percent from the field from beyond the arc for the season. Injuries hampered the Hawks' hopes of playing for a championship, but they're all fully healthy to start the season and will remain unchanged from last season except for the trade of DeMarre Carrol.
Meanwhile, the Pistons will be eager to improve on last season's disappointing 32-50 record and it all starts with Andre Drummond who is expected to have a monster season now that the Pistons decided to ship off Greg Monroe to the Bucks. Reggie Jackson and Brandon Jennings will also be required to shoulder a lot of the offensive output as the Pistons did little to improve their roster except for the inclusion of Marcus Morris and Steve Blake who are both expected to come off the bench.
In ATS trends, the Pistons are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games against the Eastern Conference and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Tuesday games, while the Hawks are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-5 ATS in their last six against the NBA Central.
The Pistons will be an interesting team to watch now that Drummond has the paint all to himself, but looking at the season opener, I love the Hawks to win and cover the spread at home where they lost just six games all of last season.
