The Line: Atlanta +3.5 -- Over/Under 223.5
The Detroit Pistons pay a visit to the Atlanta Hawks at the Philips Arena on Friday night.
The Detroit Pistons were building some nice momentum heading into the All-Star break as they have won five of their last seven games, but they will be looking to bounce back after falling to the Celtics in a 118-110 road loss on Feb 13. Blake Griffin led the team with 32 points, eight rebounds and five assists, Andre Drummond added 21 points with 17 rebounds and four steals while Reggie Jackson chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Pistons shot just 42 percent from the field and 13 of 40 from the 3-point line as they hung with the Celtics in the first half before getting blown out in the third quarter where they were outscored by 34-20 to trail by as many as 28 points. With the loss, Detroit fell to 26-30 overall and 9-17 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost four of their last five games and they will be looking to bounce back after falling to the new-look Knicks in a 106-91 home loss on Feb 14. Dwayne Dedmon led the team with 21 points, Kent Bazemore provided the spark off the bench with 16 points while Trae Young scored 16 points with 11 assists on six of 19 shooting, but no other player scored more than eight points. As a team, the Hawks shot just 36 percent from the field and 10 of 38 from the 3-point line but you just knew right from the tipoff that the Hawks weren’t locked in as the Knicks opened the game with a 14-0 run. The Hawks rallied back from a 17-point deficit in the second quarter only to get blown out in the second half by 52-40. With the loss, Atlanta fell to 19-39 overall and 9-17 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record, 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on three or more days rest and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Hawks are 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games, 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings in Altanta, the underdog is 5-2 in the last seven meetings and the road team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
The Pistons haven’t been at their best lately, but they were on a nice little run heading into the break and they will need to keep it going to hang onto that eighth seed in the Eastern Conference standings. The Hawks have no plans for the playoffs, so you’re going to see them lay an egg from time to time like they did against the Knicks in their last outing. There’s not much to split these teams but the Pistons are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall while the Hawks are 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games and I think those trends continue here as the Pistons should be too good.
