The Line: Atlanta +4 -- Over/Under 236
The Minnesota Timberwolves pay a visit to the Atlanta Hawks at the State Farm Arena on Wednesday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been on a nice run lately as they’ve won four of their last five games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the in-form Kings in a 112-105 home win on Monday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 34 points, 21 rebounds and five assists, Derrick Rose provided the spark off the bench with 20 points while Tyus Jones chipped in with 16 points and eight assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 50 percent from the field and eight of 31 from the 3-point line as they started sluggishly to fall behind by as many as 13 points early before taking firm control of the game in the second quarter where they outscored the Kings by 44-23. With the impressive win, Minnesota improved to 29-31 overall and 20-10 at home.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have been in a bit of a slump as they’ve lost six of their last eight games and they will be looking to bounce back after falling short against the Rockets in a 119-111 road loss on Monday. Trae Young led the team with 36 points and eight assists, John Collins added 20 points with 12 rebounds while Kent Bazemore chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Hawks shot 48 percent from the field and 17 of 38 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from an early 12-point deficit in the second quarter, only to fade away after the Rockets poured in 35 points in the third quarter. With the loss, Atlanta fell to 20-41 overall and 10-23 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games, 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a record below .400 and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall. The Hawks are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 home games against a team with a losing road reord and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 13-6-3 ATS in the last 22 meetings, the Timberwolves are 7-2-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Atlanta and the Timberwolves are 9-4-2 ATS in the last 15 meetings overall.
The Hawks have shown glimpses of their potential with recent wins over the Lakers and the Suns followed by a close loss to the Rockets, but they are anything but consistent to you don’t know what you’re going to get. The Timberwolves haven’t been at their best, but they’re building some nice momentum with Towns putting up big numbers and have enjoyed this matchup as they are 7-2-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Atlanta. An upset isn’t out of the question, but I think the smart money is with the Timberwolves to stay hot with another win and cover here.
