The Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics duke it out at the TD Garden on Monday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have been in great form lately as they’ve won 10 of their past 12 games and they will be gunning for a seventh straight victory after taking down the Knicks in a 109-99 home win on Friday. Theo Pinson led the team with 19 points off the bench, Shabazz Napier added 18 points while Ed Davis chipped in with 17 points, 16 rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Nets shot just 40 percent from the field and nine of 33 from the 3-point line but they were great on the defensive end, particularly in the second half where they held the Knicks to just 39 points. The Nets got next to nothing from their starters as no one scored more than D’Angelo Russell’s 12 points, but their bench combined for 72 points to pick up the slack. With the win, Brooklyn improved to 27-23 overall and 15-11 at home.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been playing some of their best basketball of the season as they’ve won nine of their last 13 games, but they will be looking to bounce back after having their five-game win streak snapped by the Warriors in a 115-111 home loss on Saturday. Kyrie Irving has been in season-best form and led the team with 32 points and 10 assists, Al Horford added 22 points with 13 rebounds while Jayson Tatum chipped in with 20 points. As a team, the Celtics shot just 41 percent from the field and 15 of 40 from the 3-point line but they battled from start to finish in a game that involved 21 lead changes, only to fall just short as they couldn’t score a point in the final minute. With the loss, Boston fell to 30-19 overall and 19-6 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games playing on two days rest, 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a win and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Celtics are 35-16 ATS in their last 51 home games and 13-6 ATS in their last 19 against the Eastern Conference.
Head to head, the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the home team is 4-0 A TS in the last four meetings.
The Nets have quietly been one of the form teams in the league as they continue to string together the wins without making any headlines. The Celtics have been in great form themselves, but they will be reeling after finishing just short against the league-best Warriors on Saturday. These two squads last met on Jan 14 and it was the Nets who won by 109-102. I like the Celtics to avenge that loss in this one, but this just seems like too many free points to be giving this red-hot Nets team.
