|Date & Time||Wednesday January 30, 2019, 7:30 PM (EST)|
The Line: Boston -8
The Boston Celtics play host to the Charlotte Hornets at the TD Garden on Wednesday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been on a nice run lately as they’ve won five of their last seven games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the Knicks in a 101-92 home win on Monday. Jeremy Lamb and Tony Parker each scored 15 points, Kemba Walker and Malik Monk each scored 14 points while Willie Hernangomez chipped in with 11 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, the Hornets shot just 41 percent from the field and 11 of 34 from the 3-point line as they wrestled with the slumping Knicks for most of the game until the fourth quarter where they went on a decisive 17-1 run to pull away late. With the win, Charlotte improved to 24-25 overall and 17-8 at home.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in great form lately as they’ve won six of their last seven games and they will be looking to keep things rolling after taking down the red-hot Nets in a 112-104 home win on Monday. Marcus Smart led the team with 21 points, seven assists and five steals, Jaylen Brown provided the spark off the bench with 21 points on nine of 16 shooting, Marcus Morris scored 15 points while Al Horford chipped in with 14 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and six blocks. As a team, the Celtics shot 45 percent from the field and 13 of 40 from the 3-point line as they struggled to gain any separation from the shorthanded Nets until the fourth quarter where they went on a 11-0 run to gain control. With the win, Boston improved to 31-19 overall and 20-6 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record, 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games against a team with a winning home record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Celtics are 35-17 ATS in their last 52 home games, 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games against a team with a losing record and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings, the Hornets are 1-7-1 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and 0-4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Boston.
Kyrie Irving sat out Monday’s game with a hip injury and is currently listed as questionable for Wednesday which would be a big loss for the Celtics. These two teams last met on Dec 23 and it was the Celtics who won by 119-103. The Hornets are just 1-7-1 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and I think that trend continues as the Celtics should be too good at the TD Garden in this one.
