The Line: Boston Celtics -5 — Over/Under: 217.5
The Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics meet Friday in NBA action at the TD Garden.
The Dallas Mavericks need a strong road victory to get back to a .500 record. The Dallas Mavericks are averaging 110.9 points on 45.5 percent shooting and allowing 109.7 points on 46.1 percent shooting. Luka Doncic is averaging 19.5 points and five assists while Harrison Barnes is averaging 18.5 points and 4.2 rebounds. Wesley Matthews is the third double-digit scorer and Dennis Smith Jr. is dishing four assists. The Dallas Mavericks are shooting 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 75.1 percent from the free throw line. The Dallas Mavericks are allowing 34.2 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 45.8 rebounds per game. The Dallas Mavericks have lost nine of their last 10 road games.
The Boston Celtics look for another win after winning four of their last six games. The Boston Celtics are averaging 111.7 points on 45.7 percent shooting and allowing 105.9 points on 44.5 percent shooting. Kyrie Irving is averaging 23.1 points and 6.6 assists while Jayson Tatum is averaging 16 points and 6.5 rebounds. Marcus Morris is the third double-digit scorer and Al Horford is grabbing 6.2 rebounds. The Boston Celtics are shooting 36.3 percent from beyond the arc and 79.8 percent from the free throw line. The Boston Celtics are allowing 33.5 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 45 rebounds per game. The Boston Celtics have won seven of their last nine home games.
The Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 Friday games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Celtics are 26-8 ATS in their last 34 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games overall. The Mavericks are 8-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings in Boston and 11-5 ATS in the last 16 meetings. The over is 21-7 in Celtics last 28 overall. The over is 7-3 in Mavericks last 10 overall.
We've made a lot of money on the Dallas Mavericks this season in the underdog role, and we'll continue to back them in spots like this. However, the Mavs aren't as trustworthy on the road as they are at home, as they're allowing 47.1 percent shooting and are being outscored by 4.9 points. The Boston Celtics are starting to heat up and play like the east contender we thought they'd be, and that offense is clicking, shooting 48.7 percent from the field in they're last five games. This line isn't big enough for me to consider the Mavs on the road. Give me the Celtics and the reasonable number.
