|Date & Time||Sunday March 3, 2019, 3:30 PM (EST)|
The Line: Boston -2.5 -- Over/Under 226.5
The Boston Celtics play host to the Houston Rockets at the TD Garden on Sunday afternoon.
The Houston Rockets have been on a nice run lately as they’ve won eight of their last 11 games and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after sneaking past the Heat in a thrilling 121-118 home win on Thursday. James Harden led the way with 58 points and 10 assists, Austin Rivers added 17 points off the bench while Chris Paul chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Rockets shot 49 percent from the field and 19 of 46 from the 3-point line, but they just couldn’t get on any sort of a run until they fell behind by 21 points in the third quarter, which prompted Harden to take over the game, but it was on the defensive end where the Rockets really impressed me as they held the Heat to just 20 points in the fourth quarter after allowing 69 points in the first half. With the impressive comeback win, Houston improved to 37-25 overall and 22-9 at home which is good for fifth place in the Western Conference.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have really fallen off the pace lately as they’ve lost six of their last nine games, but they will be breathing a little sigh of relief after putting a halt to a four-game skid with a 107-96 home win over the Wizards on Friday. Al Horford led the team in scoring with 18 points on seven of 11 shooting, Kyrie Irving finished with 13 points and 12 assists while Marcus Morris and Marcus Smart scored 17 and 16 points respectively. As a team, the Celtics shot 44 percent from the field and 10 of 35 from the 3-point line as they squandered an early 15-point lead, but they made up for in the fourth quarter where they went on a decisive 13-2 run to pull away late. With the much-needed win, Boston improved to 38-25 overall which is good for fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
Looking at the betting trends, the Rockets are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 road games, 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games following a win and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Celtics are 36-16 ATS in their last 52 home games, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Sunday games.
Head to head, the under is 11-2 in the last 13 meetings, the Rockets are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in Boston and the Rockets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Rockets have really been building some nice momentum lately while the Celtics have been on the downward trend, so the Rockets represent nice value as the underdog in this matchup, especially because they’ve already beaten the Celtics by 127-113 back on Dec 27. The Celtics own the edge in terms of the betting trends as they are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home meetings against the Rockets, but I think Harden and Paul will be good enough to escape with the win against the Celtics who have been out of sorts.
