The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets meet Wednesday in NBA preseason action at the Barclays Center.
The New York Knicks are coming off an overtime preseason win over the Washington Wizards as six-point underdogs. In the victory, the Knicks scored 124 points on 43.8 percent shooting while allowing 121 points on 41.2 percent shooting. Kevin Knox led the Knicks with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Lance Thomas had 12 points and one assist. Tim Hardaway Jr. was the third double-digit scorer and Emmanuel Mudiay had five assists off the bench. It was the Knicks first preseason victory since October of 2016 and should be somewhat of a confidence boost for a team that doesn’t have its best player and has very low expectations to start the season. With 13 made threes and getting to the line 47 times, the Knicks will be the preseason surprise team if they can repeat that formula. The New York Knicks have lost five of their last six preseason games. Courtney Lee is questionable with a neck injury.
The Brooklyn Nets have to be thinking bounce back season now that their healthy, as this team flashed potential last year but couldn’t keep their key players on the court. D'Angelo Russell played some of his best basketball of his career, Jarrett Allen has oodles of potential and Caris LeVert has impressed the coaching staff during camp. The Nets starting rotation has the ability to surprise folks in the East, but the preseason is all about getting the new look bench comfortable in time for the regular season. Ed Davis, Treveon Graham, Shabazz Napier, Kenneth Faried and Jared Dudley all come over from different teams and will have to learn on the fly in this new system. The good thing is all of those players are veterans, so it shouldn’t take long, but the Nets have to find their most effective lineups with just four preseason games to work with. The Brooklyn Nets have lost six of their last nine preseason games.
The Knicks are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 Wednesday games and the under is 3-1-1 in Knicks last 5 Wednesday games. The Nets are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and the under is 22-10 in Nets last 32 home games. The Knicks are 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings and the over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Nets are the better, deeper team right now based on all of the injuries the Knicks are dealing with at the moment. I also don't expect the Knicks to shoot so well from the outside again like they did in their victory over the Wizards. I'll lay the bucket with the Nets at home.
