The Dallas Mavericks and the Charlotte Hornets do battle at the Spectrum Center on Wednesday night.
The Dallas Mavericks have been in a real slump as they’ve lost eight of their last 10 games and they will be looking to bounce back after falling to the Thunder in a 122-102 road loss on Monday. Harrison Barnes led the team with 25 points on eight of 11 shooting, Luka Doncic added 17 points while Dennis Smith Jr. chipped in with 10 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot just 41 percent from the field and 14 of 38 from the 3-point line but they were always fighting a losing battle after falling behind by 17 points going into halftime. With the loss, Dallas dropped to 17-19 on the season and just 2-16 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in decent form as they’ve won four of their last seven games and they will be looking to stay hot after blowing past the Magic in a 125-100 home win on Monday. Kemba Walker led the way with 24 points and seven assists, Malik Monk added 21 points with four assists off the bench while Cody Zeller chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 49 percent from the field and 11 of 24 from the 3-point line as they cruised to victory after taking control in the first quarter where they outscored the Magic by 36-23. with the easy win, Charlotte improved to 18-18 overall and 14-7 at home but they learned that they will be without their center Zeller who left Monday’s game early with a fractured right hand.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a loss, 28-11-1 ATS in their last 40 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Hornets are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a losing record, 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win of more than 10 points and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 10-4-1 in the last 15 meetings in Charlotte, the road team is 18-7-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings and the Mavericks are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Charlotte.
The Mavericks have been in a real slump lately while the Hornets have been playing well, but the loss of Zeller is really going to hurt the Hornets who already too reliant on Walker for their offense. I expect the Hornets to go back to their small ball lineup in Zeller’s absence so the Mavericks will have the size advantage here, but I just can’t trust the Mavericks on the road where they’ve won just two games so far. This should be a close one but I’m going with the Hornets to get the win by single digits at home.
