The Line: Charlotte -3 -- Over/Under 219
The Miami Heat pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Wednesday night.
The Miami Heat are starting to build some momentum with three wins in their last four outings and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after sneaking past the Hawks in a 114-113 home win on Monday. Dwyane Wade led the team with 23 points and five assists off the bench, Josh Richardson added 19 points with five assists while Justise Winslow chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Heat shot a healthy 55 percent from the field and nine of 23 from the 3-point line, but they couldn’t shake the pesky Hawks until Wade scored 14 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter to help the Heat escape with the much-needed win. With the win, Miami improved to 29-34 overall and 14-18 at home.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in a real slump as they’ve lost eight of their last 11 games and they will be looking to bounce back after falling short against the Trailblazers in a 118-108 home loss on Sunday. Jeremy Lamb led the team in scoring with 23 points off the bench, Frank Kaminsky and Kemba Walker each scored 18 points while Tony Parker chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 44 percent from the field and 14 of 33 from the 3-point line while playing great defense on CJ McCollum who finished with just six points on two of 13 shooting, but they had no answer for Rodney Hood who scored all of his season-high 27 points in the second half. With the loss, Charlotte fell to 29-34 on the season and 20-13 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 against the NBA Southeast. The Hornets are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record, 0-3-1 ATS in their last four home games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings, the under is 21-7 in the last 28 meetings in Charlotte and the Heat are 5-2-1 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
The Heat have been on a nice little run lately and they will be looking to keep it going with a third straight win. The Hornets have been in a real rut lately, but they will be quietly confident about this matchup as they’ve already beaten the Heat twice this season. You could make an argument for either side here as this one is hard to pick, but the Heat are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 5-2-1 ATS in the last eight meetings against the Hornets, so I’m going with Wade and the Heat in this one.
