The Charlotte Hornets play host to the Orlando Magic at the Spectum Center on Wednesday night.
The Orlando Magic are starting to peak just at the right time as they’ve won 10 of their last 12 games and they will be hoping to cap off their regular season with a fourth straight victory after taking down the Celtics in a 116-108 road win on Sunday. Terrence Ross led the team in scoring with 26 points in just 26 minutes off the bench, Nikola Vucevic racked up 25 points with 12 rebounds and four assists while Evan Fournier chipped in with 24 points. As a team, the Magic shot 45 percent from the field and 12 of 33 from the 3-point line as they fell behind in the first half, before taking control of the game in the third quarter where they outscored the Celtics by 35-25. With the win, Orlando completed the season sweep of Boston to clinch their first playoff berth since 2012 as they locked up the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets are still battling for their playoff berth as they will be aiming for their fifth straight victory after blowing past the Cavaliers in a 124-97 road win last night. Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb each scored 23 points while Miles Bridges and Dwayne Bacon each scored 18 points. As a team, the Hornets shot a sizzling 57 percent from the field and 22 of 44 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 64 points in the first half, before ramping up the defense in the second half where they outscored the lowly Cavaliers by 60-42 to make it a blowout. With the easy win, Charlotte improved to 39-42 overall and 14-27 on the road which is currently good ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
Looking at the betting trends, the Magic are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record, 11-23 ATS in their last 34 games playing on two days rest and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Hornets are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games, 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings, the Magic are 2-10 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall and the Magic are 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings in Charlotte.
The Hornets will need to win this one and hope that the Pistons lose if they want to make the playoffs, so they will be ready for this one after making light work of the Cavaliers last night. However, the Magic are playing some of their best basketball of the season, they will be well-rested as they haven’t played since Sunday and they beat the Hornets in the last meeting by 127-89 back on Feb 14. It’s hard to split these two teams, but the Magic are 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings in Charlotte and I don’t think this game means nearly as much to them as it does the Hornets.
