|Date & Time||Friday March 8, 2019, 7:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: Charlotte -5 -- Over/Under 234
The Washington Wizards pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Friday night.
The Washington Wizards have lost five of their last eight games, but they will be aiming for a third straight victory after taking down the Mavericks in a 132-123 home win on Wednesday. Bradley Beal led the team with 30 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, Trevor Ariza added 22 points, Jabari Parker scored 20 points off the bench while Tomas Satoransky chipped in with 14 points and 11 assists. As a team, the Wizards shot 53 percent from the field and 12 of 33 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble when they allowed 43 points in the first quarter, but they outscored the Mavericks by 36-22 in the second quarter before pulling away in the second half. With the win, Washington improved to 27-37 overall and 6-26 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in a real funk lately as they’ve lost seven of their last nine games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short against the Heat in a 91-84 home loss on Wednesday. Kemba Walker led the team with 20 points and seven assists, Frank Kaminsky added 20 points off the bench while Cody Zeller chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, the Hornets shot just 36 percent from the field and 14 of 36 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from an early 13-point deficit to level the scores at halftime, but they couldn’t find their offense in the second half where they managed just 41 points. With the loss, Charlotte fell to 29-35 overall and 20-14 at home which is good for 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 11-33 ATS in their last 44 road games and 5-24 ATS in their last 29 road games against a team with a winning home record. The Hornets are 0-4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 Friday games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings, the over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings and the Wizards are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Charlotte.
The Wizards haven’t been relevant for a while now, but they’ve found a bit of form with three wins in their last four outings. The Hornets are closer to a playoff berth, but they’ve really struggled over the last 12 games, but they’re playing at home and they beat the Wizards by 123-110 back on Feb 22. The Wizards are just 6-26 on the road this season, while the Hornets are 0-4-1 ATS in their last five home games so it’s hard to split these teams, but I like what the Wizards have been doing over the last week and I think they keep that momentum going with a minor upset here.
