The Line: Chicago -4
The Chicago Bulls play host to the Atlanta Hawks at the United Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in a slump lately as they’ve won just three of their last 10 games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling just short against the Bulls in a thrilling 168-161 quadruple overtime loss on Friday. Trae Young led the team with a career-high 49 points with eight rebounds and 16 assists, Alex Len added 24 points and 10 rebounds off the bench while Taurean Prince chipped in with 17 points on seven of 10 shooting. As a team, the Hawks shot 49 percent from the field and 22 of 60 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime, but they fell just short in the fourth overtime. With the tough loss, Atlanta fell to 21-42 on the season and 11-19 at home.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls were one of the worst teams in the league all season, but they’ve sprung to life with five wins in their last six games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory following Friday’s road win over the Hawks. Zach LaVine led the team with a career-high 47 points with nine assists, Otto Porter Jr. added 31 points with 10 rebounds and four assists while Lauri Markkanen chipped in with 31 points and 17 rebounds. As a team, the Bulls shot 47 percent from the field and 21 of 48 from the 3-point line as they escaped with the win after squandering an 11-point in the fourth quarter of regulation. With the win, Chicago improved to 18-45 overall and 11-21 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a loss, 4-1 ATS in their last five road games against a team with a home record below .400 and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Bulls are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record, 2-9 ATS in their last 11 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings, the under is 12-3 in the last 15 meetings in Chicago and the Hawks are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings.
Neither team has much to play for at this stage of the season, but it was fun to watch these two squads light up the scoreboards on Friday and I'm expecting another close one. The Hawks will be eager to avenge their loss, so look for them to come out swinging, but the Bulls are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings and they've been playing some of their best basketball of the season so I'm taking them to stay hot with a win and cover here.
