The Cleveland Cavaliers play host to the Dallas Mavericks at the Quicken Loans Arena on Sunday night.
The Dallas Mavericks have been in a real slump as they’ve lost seven of their last eight games and they will be looking to avoid a third straight defeat after falling to the Timberwolves in a 93-92 home loss on Friday. Harrison Barnes led the team with 19 points, Dennis Smith Jr. added 17 points with seven assists while Yogi Ferrell chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Mavericks shot 44 percent from the field and 11 of 28 from the three-point line as they pushed the Timberwolves for three quarters until Jamal Crawford carried the Timberwolves with 13 points in the fourth quarter. With the loss, Dallas dropped to 23-53 overall and 14-25 at home.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been in great form as they’ve won seven of their last eight games and they will be gunning for a third straight win after taking down the Pelicans in a 107-102 win on Friday. LeBron James led the team with 27 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists, Jordan Clarkson added 23 points on nine of 13 shooting while Rodney Hood chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 47 percent from the field and 10 of 24 from the three-point line but the story of the night really belonged to James who scored in double digits in his 867th straight game to break Michael Jordan’s record. With the win, Cleveland improved to 46-30 overall and 26-11 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record and 13-5 ATS in their last 18 Sunday games. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers 17-37-2 ATS in their last 56 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings, the Mavericks are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall and 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Cleveland.
These two teams have only met once this season and it was the Cavaliers who won by 111-104 back on Nov 11, but that was a long time ago and their team has gone through a major roster overhaul since then. The Mavericks haven’t been able to buy a win lately but they’ve been able to keep the scores close as none of their last seven losses were by more than 10 points. I think the Cavaliers win this one but I like the Mavericks to earn the cover as they’re 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings.
