The Washington Wizards pay a visit to the Quicken Loans Arena to battle the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night.
The Washington Wizards have been in a real slump lately as they’ve lost six of their last eight games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight loss after falling to the Rockets in a 120-104 road loss on Tuesday. Bradley Beal led the team with 27 points on 10 of 15 shooting, Markieff Morris added 14 points with four assists while Otto Porter Jr. chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Wizards shot a healthy 52 percent from the field and 12 of 25 from the three-point line but they were on the back foot right from the tipoff and found themselves trailing by 71-49 going into halftime. John Wall scored nine points with 10 assists but committed a total of eight turnovers as he works himself back into shape. With the loss, Washington dropped to 42-36 overall which is currently good for seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been on a real nice run as they’ve won nine of their last 10 games and they will be gunning for a fifth straight win after sneaking past the Conference-leading Raptors in a 112-106 home win on Tuesday. LeBron James led the way with 27 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, Jose Calderon added 19 points and four assists against his former team while Kevin Love chipped in with a double-double of 18 points with 15 assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 49 percent from the field and 13 of 30 from the three-point line as they stormed out to lead by as many as 16 points before the game tightened up in the second half. With the important win, Cleveland improved to 48-30 which is currently good for third place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record, 0-6 ATS in their last six road games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are 7-0 ATS in their last seven home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings, the Wizards are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall but a healthy 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Cleveland.
The Cavaliers are currently leading the season series by 2-1 but the Wizards did take the most recent meeting, a 110-103 road win back on Feb 22. The Wizards were playing great basketball at the time but they’ve really cooled off recently despite having their floor leader in John Wall back on the court. With that being said, the Cavaliers have been on a roll lately, especially at home where they are currently riding a seven-game win streak. This should be a close one, but I’m sticking with the Cavaliers to stay hot with a win and cover at home.
