The Charlotte Hornets and the Dallas Mavericks meet in NBA preseason action from American Airlines Center on Friday night.
The Charlotte Hornets will look to finish the preseason strong after improving to 3-1 in the preseason with a 110-104 win over Chicago in their last outing. Kemba Walker led the Hornets with 20 points on 8 of 16 shooting along with 7 rebounds while Jeremy Lamb added 16 points and Cody Zeller chipped in 14 points. Malik Monk added 13 points and 3 steals off of the bench while Marvin Williams added 12 points to round out the scoring in double figures for the Hornets in the win. Nicolas Batum scored just 7 points but added team-highs of 12 rebounds and 7 assists in the victory. As a team, Charlotte is averaging 112 points per game on 45.2% shooting from the field, 35.3% from behind the 3-point line and 70.2% from the charity stripe through 4 preseason games.
The Dallas Mavericks will look to build some steam after picking up the win over Philadelphia in their last preseason outing by a final score of 115-112. Luka Doncic led the Mavs with 15 points and 5 assists while J.J. Barea came right beihind with 14 points and Jalen Brunson added 11 points. Dwight Powell and Dennis Smith Jr each added 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for Dallas in the win, with Smith Jr. adding 5 assists while Maxi Kleber added 7 points and a team-high 7 rebounds. As a team, Dallas is averaging 114.5 points per game on 45.8% shooting from the field, 36.8% from behind the arc and 64.5% from the foul line this season.

There’s no denying how good the Hornets have looked in the preseason and I like them better top-to-bottom than I do Dallas as I just feel the Mavericks are going to once again be a team looking for an identity in the regular season. Doncic looked solid and could be the front runner for rookie of the year, but ultimately for this game I have to go with what I feel is the better team and that's Charlotte.
