The Dallas Mavericks play host to the Chicago Bulls at the American Airlines Center on Monday night.
The Chicago Bulls are still looking for their first win of the season after falling to the Pistons in a 118-116 home loss on Saturday. Zach LaVine led the team with 33 points on 12 of 21 shooting, Justin Holiday added 19 points, Bobby Portis scored six points with 14 rebounds and five assists while Cameron Payne chipped in with 17 points and four assists. As a team, the Bulls shot 50 percent from the field and seven of 21 from the three-point line but they just couldn’t contain Blake Griffin who poured in 33 points and Ish Smith who scored all of his 15 points in the second half.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks were blown off the court in their season opening loss to the Suns but they were able to bounce back with a 140-136 home win over the Timberwolves on Saturday. Luke Doncic led the team with 26 points on eight of 16 shooting, DeAndre Jordan added 22 points with 10 rebounds and five blocks while Dennis Smith Jr, Wesley Matthews and Dwight Powell each scored 19 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 50 percent from the field and 17 of 50 from the three-point line but this game came down to the wire and that’s where the Mavericks leaned on Smith Jr. who scored the team’s last six points in the final 6.4 seconds of the game.
Looking at the betting trends, the Bulls are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a loss, 4-14 ATS in their last 18 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 11-27 ATS in their last 38 games against a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last six against the Eastern Conference.
Head to head, the road team is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings, the underdog is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings and the Bulls are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Dallas.
The Bulls are still without a win after two games, but they were right there with a chance to win it against the Pistons in their last outing. The Mavericks looked pretty bad in their season opener but they were able to sneak away with a hard-fought win against the Timberwolves thanks to their dynamic backcourt duo of Doncic and Smith Jr. I’m certainly favoring the Mavericks at home in this matchup, but they’ve hardly been convincing in their start to the season so I’m not ready to lay this many points against this Bulls team who have covered in eight of the last 10 meetings in Dallas.
