American Airlines Center
The Line: Dallas +8 -- Over/Under 223.5
The Houston Rockets pay a visit to the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Houston Rockets look to be peaking at the right time as they’ve won 11 of their last 14 games and they will be looking to build on their current seven-game win streak after blowing past the 76ers in a 107-91 home win on Friday. James Harden led the team with 31 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, Clint Capela added 18 points with nine rebounds while Eric Gordon chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Rockets shot 49 percent from the field and 13 of 41 from the 3-point line which aren’t numbers that jump off the page, but they set up the win in the first quarter where they outscored the 76ers by 37-21 to get the crowd right in the game. With the win, Houston improved to 40-25 on the season and 23-9 at home which is good for third place in the Western Conference.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have really fallen off the pace lately with nine losses in their last 10 games and they will be hoping to snap a four-game skid after falling short against the Magic in a 111-106 road loss on Friday. Luka Doncic led the team with 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists, Jalen Brunson added 18 points with nine assists while Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dirk Nowtizki each scored 15 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 47 percent from the field and 10 of 34 from the 3-point line, but not even nine straight points from Nowitzki in the fourth quarter was enough as they trailed by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter. With the loss, Dallas fell to 27-38 overall and 6-27 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Rockets are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four road games, 21-43-2 ATS in their last 66 games against a team with a losing record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Mavericks are 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games against a team above .600, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-1-1 in the last seven meetings, the Rockets are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Dallas and the Rockets are 17-8 ATS in the last 25 meetings overall.
The Rockets have been on a tear lately as they’ve been playing their best basketball of the season with a full roster while the Mavericks have been in a serious slump with nine losses in their last 10 games. Surprisingly though, it is the Mavericks who are leading the season series by 2-1 but the Rockets won the last meeting by 120-104 back on Feb 11 and I can’t see anything but a similar result as the Rockets are 17-8 ATS in the last 25 meetings overall and 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Dallas.
