The Dallas Mavericks play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the American Airlines Center on Saturday.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in great form lately as they’ve won eight of their past 10 games and they will be gunning for a fifth straight win after blowing past the short-handed Thunder in a 106-81 home win on Thursday. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the team with 20 points on seven of 10 shooting, Brandon Ingram added 19 points while Julius Randle chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Lakers shot just 43 percent from the field and 10 of 31 from the three-point line but they were just too good in the second half where they outscored the Thunder by 54-35. However, it has to be noted that the Thunder were playing without Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook. With the win, Los Angeles improved to 23-31 overall and 14-14 at home where they have now won eight in a row.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have lost 10 of their last 12 games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting blown out by the Warriors in a 121-103 road loss on Thursday. Dennis Smith Jr. led the team with 22 points, Dwight Powell added 18 points on seven of nine shooting while Wesley Matthews and Dirk Nowitzki scored 17 and 16 points respectively. As a team, the Mavericks shot 43 percent from the field and nine of 37 from the three-point line as they came out strong and jumped out to an early double-digit lead, but they were no match for the Warriors in the second half where they were outscored by 61-43. With the loss, Dallas dropped to 17-38 overall and 7-20 on the road where they have lost six of their last seven.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 6-0 ATS in their last six games following a win of more than 10 points and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss of more than 10 points, 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings, the Lakers are 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings in Dallas and 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Lakers traded away Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. for Isaiah Thomas and Channing Frye but it is unclear if either will be available for this game. With that being said, the Mavericks haven't been in great form and are coming into this game fresh off a double-digit loss to the Warriors, but I like their chances against the new-look Lakers who could be shorthanded for this one.
