The New Orleans Pelicans pay a visit to the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday night.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been in a real funk as they've lost six of their last eight games and they will be hoping to snap a four-game skid after falling to the Kings in a 122-117 road loss on Sunday. Jrue Holiday led the team with 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Anthony Davis racked up 26 points with 17 rebounds, four assists and four blocks while Julius Randle chipped in with 18 points and nine rebounds. As a team, the Pelicans shot 46 percent from the field and a miserly six of 26 from the 3-point line as they jumped out to lead by as much as 19 points in the first quarter, staying ahead by double digits for most of the game until the Kings railled in the fourth quarter. With the loss, New Orleans fell to 15-19 on the season and 4-14 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks are in a real slump of their own as they will be hoping to snap a six-game skid after falling to the Trailblazers in a 121-118 overtime loss on Sunday. Harrison Barnes led the team with 27 points on 11 of 20 shooting, Luka Doncic rakced up 23 points with 11 rebounds and six assists while DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Powell each scored 14 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot just 41 percent from the field and 13 of 24 from the 3-point line but they still couldn't get past the Trailblazers despite forcing overtime on a wild buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Doncic. With the loss, Dallas fell to 15-17 on the season and 2-14 on the road where they've now lost seven straight.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games playing on two days rest, 5-11 ATS in their last 16 road games and 1-8 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a losing record. The Mavericks are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games playing on two days rest, 10-2 ATS in their last 12 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings, the under is 6-1 in the last seven meetings in Dallas and the Pelicans are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
The Pelicans are in a rut at the moment and they will be kicking themselves after falling apart against the Kings on Sunday. The Mavericks have been even worse as they've lost six straight overall and seven straight on the road. You really couldn't trust either team the way they've been playing, but the Pelicans have been a shocking road team while the Mavericks have won 13 of their 16 home games. With that being said, I'm going with the Mavericks to take of business with a narrow win in this one.
