The Line: Dallas +1.5
The Portland Trailblazers and the Dallas Mavericks duke it out at the American Airlines Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Portland Trailblazers have been in pretty good shape as they’ve won seven of their last nine games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the Spurs in a 127-118 home win on Thursday. CJ McCollum led the team with 30 points and nine rebounds, Damian Lillard added 24 points with nine assists and five steals while Jusuf Nurkic chipped in with 22 points and six assists. As a team, the Trailblazers shot a healthy 53 percent from the field and 11 of 31 from the 3-point line as they took over the game in the second quarter where they outscored the Spurs by 39-23 before holding off the Spurs late rally in the second half. With the much-needed win, Portland improved to 32-21 overall and 23-8 at home.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in some nice form themselves as they’ve won five of their last eight games, but they will be looking to bounce back after having their two-game win streak halted by the Bucks in a 122-107 home loss on Friday. Luka Doncic led the team with 20 points, Trey Burke added 18 points off the bench while Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dwight Powell each scored 12 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot just 41 percent from the field but a sizzling 22 of 53 from the 3-point line but it still wasn’t enough as the Mavericks always trailed after the Bucks took control of the game in the second quarter. With the loss, Dallas fell to 25-29 overall and 19-8 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trailblazers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 3-1-1 ATS in their last five home games and 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings in Dallas, the Trailblazers are 3-10 ATS in the last 13 meetings overall and the Trailblazers are 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings in Dallas.
The Trailblazers have quietly been one of the form teams in the league lately and that’s mainly due to McCollum picking up his production alongside Lillard. The Mavericks are going through some growing pains following their blockbuster trade to acquire Kristaps Porzingis so it was no surprise that they struggled against the red-hot Bucks on Friday. The Trailblazers won the last meeting against the Mavericks by 121-118 in overtime back on Dec 23 and I’m expecting a similar result as the Trailblazers should get the win and cover here.
