The Line: Dallas +3.5 -- Over/Under 220
The Toronto Raptors pay a visit to the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center on Sunday night.
The Toronto Raptors have been in great form as they’ve won eight of their last 11 games but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling just short against the Rockets in a 121-119 road loss on Friday. Kawhi Leonard led the team with 32 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Pascal Siakam added 22 points with 12 rebounds while Danny Green chipped in with 22 points. As a team, the Raptors shot 48 percent from the field and 14 of 36 from the 3-point line as they trailed by as many as 22 points in the first half and by 12 points with just 1:22 left on the clock, before falling just short as Leonard missed on the potential game winner at the buzzer. With the loss, Toronto fell to 28-20 overall and 18-7 at home.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have split their last eight games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after sneaking past the Pistons in a 106-101 home win on Friday. Luka Doncic led the team with 32 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, Dennis Smith Jr. added 19 points with five assists while DeAndre Jordan chipped in with 13 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, the Mavericks shot 45 percent from the field and 14 of 36 from the 3-point line but this win was about their defense as they held the Pistons to just 41 percent shooting and only 16 points in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Raptors are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 road games, 1-5 ATS in their last six Sunday games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a loss. The Mavericks are 14-5-1 ATS in their last 20 home games, 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games against a team above .600 and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 against the Eastern Conference.
Head to head, the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Dallas and the road team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Mavericks are building some momentum with a couple of wins on the trot while the Raptors have cooled off lately with back to back losses. The Raptors are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 road games while the Mavericks are 14-5-1 ATS in their last 20 home games. These teams last met on Oct 26 and it was the Raptors who won by 116-107. A lot has changed since then as Doncic has really emerged as the star of his team, but I’m expecting a similar result here so I’m taking the Raptors to get the win and cover.
