The New Orleans Pelicans travel to Salt Lake City to battle the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center on Monday.
The New Orleans Pelicans will be eager to get back on the court after having their four-game win streak snapped by the Jazz in a 132-111 loss at home on Saturday. Nikola Mirotic led the team with 25 points on 10 of 18 shooting, Jrue Holiday added 18 points while Julius Randle chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot just 42 percent from the field and nine of 34 from the three-point line as they struggled to keep up without their leader in Anthony Davis after falling behind by 15 points going into halftime. Davis is being listed as questionable for Monday with an elbow injury.
Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets know how the Pelicans are feeling as they too are looking to bounce back after having their four-game win streak snapped by the Lakers in a 121-114 road loss on Thursday. Nikola Jokic led the team with 24 points and 11 rebounds, Jamal Murray added 22 points while Monte Morris chipped in with 20 points off the bench. As a team, the Nuggets shot 50 [ercent from the field and just six of 23 from the three-point line as they seemed to have the Lakers under control for most of the game until Lance Stephenson sparked a decisive 15-2 run in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a loss, 19-7 ATS in their last 26 road games and 20-8 ATS in their last 28 games overall. The Nuggets are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall, 4-0 ATS in their last four home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five against the Western Conference.
Head to head, the home team is 4-0 in the last four meetings, the Pelicans are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and 3-9 ATS in the last 12 meetings in Denver.
At this early stage, it seems as though Davis may sit this game out which obviously hurts the Pelicans on both ends of the floor so it’ll be a big advantage to the Nuggets who will feast of Jokic at the center position. Assuming Davis doesn’t suit up, I don't think the Pelicans have the weapons or the defense to hang in this one, so I really like the Nuggets who have covered in nine of the last 12 meetings at home.
