The Atlanta Hawks and the Detroit Pistons collide at Little Caesars Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Atlanta Hawks have lost seven of their past 10 games but they will be aiming for a season-high third straight victory after taking down the Knicks in a 114-107 road win on Friday. Kent Bazemore led the team in scoring with 22 points, John Collins added 17 points with 16 rebounds and four assists, Kevin Huerter added 16 points while Trae Young chipped in with 15 points and 10 assists. As a team, the Hawks shot 47 percent from the field and 10 of 29 from the 3-point line but the key to the win was actually their defense as they held the Knicks to just 38 points in the second half after allowing them to pour on 39 points in the first quarter alone. With the win, Atlanta improved to 8-23 on the season and 3-14 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been in a real slump as they’ve lost eight of their last 10 games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling to the Hornets in a 98-86 road loss on Friday. Blake Griffin led the team with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Andre Drummond added 17 points with 16 rebounds while Reggie Jackson chipped in with 12 points and four assists. As a team, the Pistons shot just 39 percent from the field and eight of 34 from the 3-point line and on the defensive end they kept losing Marvin Williams who torched them with seven 3-pointers. With the loss, Detroit fell to 15-15 overall and 5-8 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six Sunday games, 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a win and 1-4 ATS in their last five games playing on one days rest. The Pistons are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record, 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings, the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the Hawks are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Detroit.
These two teams have already met once this season and it was the Pistons who won by 124-109 back on Nov 9. The Hawks have opened as big underdogs in this one and it’s certainly warranted given their lack of success this season, especially on the road where they’ve lost 14 of 17, but the Pistons have been in a major slump lately and they were held to a lowest point total in their loss to the Hornets on Friday. With that being said, I never feel good backing the Hawks but they’ve won back to back games and I think they’ll be good enough to keep this one to single digits.
