The Orlando Magic pay a visit to the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday night.
The Orlando Magic have been in decent form lately as they’ve split their last 10 games but they will be aiming for a third straight victory after taking down the Rockets in a 116-109 home win on Sunday. Aaron Gordon led the team with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists, Nikola Vucevic added 22 points with nine rebounds and six assists, Evan Fournier scored 19 points while Terrence Ross chipped in with 17 points off the bench. As a team, the Magic shot 48 percent from the field and nine of 24 from the 3-point line as they struggled early in the game, but they stayed within striking distance and were able to closed the game on a 14-4 run to finish on top. With the win, Orlando improved to 19-24 on the season and 12-11 at home.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons have been in a real slump lately as they’ve lost eight of their last 10 games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling just short against the Jazz in a 100-94 road loss on Monday. Blake Griffin led the team with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists, Andre Drummond added 15 points with 13 rebounds while Reggie Bullock chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Pistons shot a miserly 38 percent from the field and 11 of 36 from the 3-point line as they led by as many as 12 points late in the second quarter, but their offense fell apart in the second half where they were outscored by 47-35. With the loss, Detroit fell to 18-24 overall and 7-14 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Magic are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games playing on two days rest. The Pistons are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine home games, 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven against the Eastern Conference and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Detroit, the home team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings and the Magic are 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
The Magic have had a forgettable season so far, but they suddenly found a bit of form with consecutive wins over the Celtics and the Rockets, but it’s no surprise that they’re underdogs here as they’ve lost seven of their last eight road games. The Pistons look like the better team on paper but they just can’t find any consistency, not even at home where they’ve lost four of their last five. It’s hard to split these two teams, but the Magic are 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and I think that trend continues here as the Magic pull off the minor upset.
