The Utah Jazz kick off their season tonight when they pay a visit to the Detroit Pistons.
The Detroit Pistons were able to jumpstart their season with an impressive 106-94 road win over the Hawks last night thanks to contributions from all five starters. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the scoring with 21 points, Andre Drummond and Marcus Morris added 18 points each while Ersan Ilyasova and Reggie Jackson added 16 and 15 points respectively as the Pistons made light work of the Hawks. As a team, the Pistons shot just 38.5 percent from the field, but they were able to win the possession battle by dominating the offensive boards by 23-7 led by Drummond's eight offensive grabs.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz will be eager to kick off their season with a win after failing to reach .500 last season with a 38-44 record. Once again, much of the scoring load will fall onto Gordon Hayward's shoulders and Trey Burke will likely return to the starting lineup now that Dante Exum is expected to miss significant time. Rudy Gobert will be required to take on a larger scoring role and should be set for a big season if his preseason production is anything to go by.
In ATS trends, the Jazz are 1-5-3 ATS in their last nine Wednesday games and 4-4 ATS in their last eight road games, while the Pistons are 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games and 8-17-1 ATS in their last 26 vs. NBA Northwest.
Head to head, the Jazz are 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Detroit and 16-6 ATS in hte last 22 meetings overall.
The Jazz have enjoyed plenty of success against the Pistons in recent seasons but I really like the way the boys from Detroit played last night and I'm expecting them to improve to 2-0 on the season after tonight.
