The Line: Golden State -15.5
The Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors do battle at the Oracle Arena on Saturday night.
The Dallas Mavericks have been in a real slump for a while now as they’ve lost 15 of their last 17 games and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after falling short against the Kings in a 116-100 road loss on Thursday. Justin Jackson led the team in scoring with 19 points, Dwight Powell added 14 points with five assists while Luka Doncic chipped in with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Mavericks shot just 39 percent from the field and 12 of 40 from the 3-point line, but they were no match in the second half where the Kings outscored them by 63-49. With the loss, Dallas improved to 28-44 overall and 6-30 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors have been in decent shape as they’ve won five of their last seven games and they will be aiming for a third straight win after blowing past the Pacers in a 112-89 home win on Thursday. DeMarcus Cousins led the team with 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, Klay Thompson added 18 points with four assists while Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry each scored 15 points. As a team, the Warriors shot 49 percent from the field and 13 of 36 from the 3-point line as they took a 10-point lead going into halftime before putting the game to bed in the third quarter where they outscored the Pacers by 35-19. With the easy win, Golden State improved to 49-22 overall and 25-10 at home which is still good for first place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 games following a loss of more than 10 points, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall. The Warriors are 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 home games, 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-0 in the last five meetings, the Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Mavericks are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 meetings in Golden State.
The Warriors currently lead the season series by 2-1, but their two wins were by a combined nine points, so the Mavericks have had some success against them this season. The Warriors will be a little shorthanded for this one as Curry will be rested for this meeting, but it’s just so hard to back a Mavericks team who have lost 15 of their last 17. I’m tempted to take the Warriors in a blowout, but the Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall and I think they do just enough to get a backdoor cover here.
