The Line: Houston -4 -- Over/Under 221.5
The Brooklyn Nets and the Houston Rockets duke it out at the Toyota Center on Wednesday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have been on a nice run lately as they’ve won five of their last seven games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the Celtics in a 109-102 home win on Monday. D’Angelo Russel led the team with 34 points, five rebounds and seven assists, Jarrett Allen added 19 points with 12 rebounds and four blocks while Rodions Kurucs chipped in with 19 points on seven of 11 shooting. As a team, the Nets shot 43 percent from the field and 13 of 39 from the 3-point line but this win was all about the third quarter where they outscored the Celtics by 44-21 to lead by as many as 27 points before the Celtics rallied late to keep the final score respectable. With the win, Brooklyn improved to 22-23 overall and 12-11 at home.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been one of the hottest teams in the league as they’ve won 14 of their last 18 games and they will be looking to stay hot after blowing past the Grizzlies in a 112-94 home win on Monday. Gerald Green scored 14 points off the bench while Danuel House Jr. scored 15 points, but this game was all about James Harden who led the way with a season-high 57 points on 17 of 33 shooting. As a team, the Rockets shot 44 percent from the field and 18 of 48 from the 3-point line as they cruised to victory in their first game without their center Clint Capela who is expected to miss the next four to six weeks. With the win, Houston improved to 25-18 overall and 16-6 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Rockets are 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight home games against a team with a losing road record, 14-3-1 ATS in their last 18 home games and 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, the Nets are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Houston.
The Rockets will be aiming for the season sweep as they’ve already beaten the Nets by 119-111 back on Nov 2 but a lot has changed since then as the Rockets are shorthanded, while the Nets have actually been playing some of their best basketball of the season. It’s tempting to go with the Rockets given how ridiculously well Harden has been playing lately, but the Nets are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Houston and I think that trend continues, so I'm taking the Nets with the points in this one.
