The Houston Rockets play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Toyota Center on Saturday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers were in a real slump for a while without LeBron James on the court, but they’ve found a bit of form with back to back wins and they will be feeling pretty good about themselves after taking down the Thunder in a 138-128 overtime road win on Thursday. Kyle Kuzma drained a season-high seven 3-pointers to lead the team with 32 points, Ivica Zubac provided the spark off the bench with 26 points on 12 of 14 shooting while Lonzo Ball chipped in with 18 points, six rebounds and 10 assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 50 percent from the field and 19 of 40 from the 3-point line as they played hard for 48 minutes, but where they really shone was in the overtime period where they outscored the Thunder by 16-6. With the win, LA improved to 25-21 overall and 10-12 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have won nine of their last 13 games but they will be looking to bounce back after falling to the Nets in a 145-142 overtime loss on Wednesday. James Harden has been on a historic scoring streak and stayed hot with 58 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, PJ Tucker and Eric Gordon each scored 20 points while Gerald Green chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Rocket shot 42 percent from the field and 23 of 70 from the 3-point line but they fell just short in the second overtime as the Nets closed the overtime period on a 10-run to steal the game. With the loss, Houston fell to 25-19 overall and 16-7 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games, 7-2 ATS in their last nine games after allowing 125 points or more in their previous game and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a win. The Rockets are 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a loss, 11-2-1 ATS in their last 14 home games and 13-5-1 ATS in their last 19 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings, the Lakers are 5-13 ATS in the last 18 meetings in Houston and 5-14 ATS in the last 19 meetings overall.
The young Lakers seem to be growing in confidence with success and they’re catching the Rockets at the right time as they’re just so shorthanded right now with Clint Capela and Chris Paul still out. The Lakers have their own injuries obviously, but I think they can stay hot in this one and at least keep it to single digits.
