The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Houston Rockets duke it out at the Toyota Center on Sunday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in a bit of a rut as they've lost six of their last nine games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling to the Jazz in a 120-100 road loss on Thursday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 26 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, Andrew Wiggins added 14 points while Tyus Jones chipped in with 12 points and nine assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 46 percent from the field and just five of 24 from the 3-point line as they trailed by just one point after falling behind by double-digits early, but could get no closer as the Jazz pulled away in the fourth quarter. With the tough loss, Minnesota fell to 32-37 on the season and 9-27 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been on a great run as they've won 10 of their last 11 games and they will be looking to stay hot after sneaking past the Suns in a 108-102 home win on Friday. James Harden led the team with 41 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists and six steals, Eric Gordon added 19 points while Danuel House Jr. chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Rockets shot 43 percent from the field and 11 of 40 from the 3-point line but they really had to scrap right till the end as they couldn't shake the Suns until the fourth quarter where they outscored them by 25-17 to escape with the win. Chris Paul was rested for the game but is expected to suit up on Sunday. With the win, Houston improved to 43-26 overall and 25-10 at home which is good for third place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 0-6 ATS in their last six road games, 2-12 ATS in their last 14 games playing on two days rest and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Rockets are 22-45-2 ATS in their last 69 games against a team with a losing record, 1-5 ATS in their last six against the Western Conference and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Head to head, the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings, the over is 18-6 in the last 24 meetings and the Timberwolves are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Houston.
The Timberwolves have been in a slump over past couple of weeks as they're struggling with injuries, but a win over the red-hot Rockets could steer their season back on track. Unfortunately, the Timberwolves are 0-6 ATS in their last six road games and just 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Houston, so I'm sticking with the Rockets to stay hot with another win and cover in this one.
