The New Orleans Pelicans and the Houston Rockets collide at the Toyota Center on Tuesday night.
The New Orleans Pelicans could really do with a win as they’ve just received news that their leading scorer in Anthony Davis wants out, but they’ve been in a bit of a slump as they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after falling to the Spurs in a 126-114 home loss on Saturday. Jrue Holiday led the team with 29 points, Jahlil Okafor added 24 points with 15 rebounds while Frank Jackson chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Pelicans shot 46 percent from the field and seven of 27 from the 3-point line but they were always a step behind the Spurs as they played without four key players in Anthony Davis, Julius Randle, Nikola Mirotic and E’Twaun Moore. With the loss, New Orleans fell to 22-28 overall and 15-8 at home.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been in great form as they’ve won five of their last seven games and they will be aiming for a fourth straight victory after sneaking past the Magic in a 103-98 home win on Sunday. James Harden led the team with 40 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, Eric Gordon added 16 points while Chris Paul and Kenneth Faried each scored 12 points. As a team, the Rockets shot 47 percent from the field and 12 of 36 from the 3-point line but they trailed for most of the game after falling behind by 16 points in the first quarter and they didn’t get in front until the fourth quarter where they outscored the Magic by 29-16 to steal the game late. With the win, Houston improved to 29-20 overall and 19-7 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games, 7-2 ATS in their last nine games following a loss of more than 10 points and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games playing on two days rest. The Rockets are 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 home games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Houston and the under is 38-17-1 ATS in the last 56 meetings overall.
These squads have split two meetings this season with the Rockets winning the most recent encounter by 108-104 back on Dec 29. So much has changed since then as the Pelicans have really fallen off the pace with all their injuries while the Rockets were able to keep their heads above water thanks largely to Harden who has been on a historic scoring streak. The Rockets haven’t been at their absolute best but they’re rounding back into shape with Paul returning to the court. The line seems quite hefty but the Rockets are starting to build some winning momentum and I think they can keep it going with a big win against this shorthanded Pelicans outfit.
