The New York Knicks pay a visit to the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center on Friday night.
The New York Knicks have been in a serious slump as they’ve lost 15 of their last 17 games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling short against the Magic in a 114-100 road loss on Wednesday. Mario Hezonja led the team with 29 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Kevin Knox added 21 points while Emmanuel Mudiay chipped in with 13 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists. As a team, the Knicks shot 44 percent from the field and six of 27 from the 3-point line as they hung with the Magic early in the game, but they were always fighting an uphill battle after the Magic took control of the game in the second quarter where they were outscored by 32-19. With the loss, New York fell to 15-63 overall and 7-32 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been on a great run as they’ve won nine of their last 11 games and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after destroying the Clippers in a 135-103 road win on Wednesday. James Harden led the team with 31 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, Chris Paul added 29 points with seven assists while Clint Capela chipped in with 24 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks. As a team, the Rockets shot a healthy 53 percent from the field and 18 of 38 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 39 points in the first quarter, before putting the game out of reach in the third quarter where they outscored the Clippers by 34-20. With the easy win, Houston improved to 51-28 overall and 22-18 on the road which is good for third place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Knicks are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games, 0-6 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 17-37 ATS in their last 54 games overall. The Rockets are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four home games, 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 11-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings, the Knicks are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Houston and the Knicks are 7-16 ATS in the last 23 meetings overall.
This is clearly the biggest mismatch of the night as the Rockets look to continue their surge towards the playoffs while the slumping Knicks already have their eyes towards the offseason. These two teams have only met once so far this season and it was the Rockets who cruised to a 114-100 win back on Jan 23. The Rockets have won their last four games by an average of 26.2 points and I think that trend continues as they blow out the Knicks here.
